Senior NPP leader in Meghalaya – Nidamon Chullet has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court in a 2008 murder case.  

Chullet and another person named Koming Rabon have been convicted by the Jowai sessions court in the murder case of Ewanmi Lhuid, nephew of a retired IAS officer. 

Chullet and Rabon murdered Lhuid in Jowai in West Jaintia Hills district in February 2008 following a brawl. 

Rabon has been sentenced to a seven-year jail term.

According to reports Meghalaya NPP leader Nidamon Chullet will file an appeal in the Meghalaya High Court challenging the lower court’s judgement. 

Notably, Nidamon Chullet is also the prime accused in the November 2018 Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma assault case. 

Women right’s activist Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma were allegedly brutally assaulted by Nidamon Chullet on November 18, 2018 in East Jaintia Hills district after the activists duo took photographs of coal-laden trucks.
