Guwahati: Residents in Meghalaya can breathe a sigh of relief this summer as the Power Department announced that there will be no load-shedding this year.
This positive outcome has been attributed to a combination of proactive planning by the department and the arrival of the monsoon rains, they said.
Power Minister AT Mondal addressing concerns from residents who might experience power cuts clarified that many outages are not load-shedding, but rather scheduled maintenance work.
“People often misunderstand why the power goes out,” Mondal explained.

He added, “Most of the time, they think it’s load-shedding, but it’s actually maintenance.”
There are two main reasons for power disruptions, according to Mondal. The first is a lack of available power, which necessitates load-shedding. The second is scheduled maintenance work, which becomes even more important during the monsoon season.

“The rain, thunder, and cyclones that come with the monsoon can cause problems,” Mondal said. “We have to perform regular scheduled maintenance during this time to address issues like trees falling on power lines and disrupting the electricity supply”, he added.
