Meghalaya: Deputy CM accuses Mukul Sangma of planning to join BJP

Guwahati: Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma, has called for an independent inquiry into the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Meghalaya, citing discrepancies between government claims and ground reality.

Sangma alleged shoddy implementation, particularly in the Garo Hills region, and plans to conduct a field visit to verify the facts.

The state government has denied allegations of misimplementation, but Sangma accused them of being in “denial mode.”

He questioned whether the government aimed to implement JJM only on paper or genuinely serve the people.

The state BJP has also accused the government of running a scam, submitting a nonfactual report to the Centre, and manipulating data to serve their interests.

BJP Vice President Bernard N Marak claimed that the report falsely showed 100 per cent functional tap water connections in villages, contradicting ground realities.
