Guwahati: The iconic Lady Hydari Park in Shillong, Meghalaya, now known as Ka Phan Nonglait Park, will soon be welcoming a major makeover. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced plans to relocate all animals to the newly constructed State Zoo in Ri-Bhoi district by June.

“The zoo is nearly complete, and we expect to move most of the animals to their new enclosures by June,” said the Chief Minister. This relocation paves the way for a comprehensive renovation of the park itself.

The renovation plans include enhanced facilities, additional parking spaces to address traffic congestion in the city, and an expansion for the Shillong Civil Hospital to increase bed capacity and services.

“The entire park redesign process is complete,” informed CM Sangma. “We will be providing additional space to the hospital to improve their facilities.”

The new zoo received clearance from the Central Zoo Authority four years ago.
