Shillong: The KHADC Delimitation Committee responsible for reshaping the 29 existing constituencies in Meghalaya is reportedly facing hurdles due to missing electoral rolls and a surge of fresh requests from villages.

As per reports, the committee hasn’t received electoral rolls from Ri-Bhoi, South West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills districts, and the Sohra civil subdivision.

Chairman of the committee, Stralwell Kharsyiemlieh said that these rolls were needed for determining electorate size for constituency readjustment.

Apart from this, many villages that missed the public hearings are now approaching the committee, claiming they were unaware of the process.

Kharsyiemlieh added that their views should also be heard.

It was further reported that the committee is unsure about accepting these new requests and will seek guidance from the KHADC Executive Committee.

Despite an extension granted until March 13, 2025, Kharsyiemlieh hesitated to guarantee completion within this timeframe due to the aforementioned challenges.
