The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) would intensify massive agitation in the state in the New Year till the demand to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system was fulfilled.
The anti-influx groups in Meghalaya made this announcement at an event in Shillong on Thursday.
The group on Thursday took out a torch rally from Mawlai to Motphran as a mark of protest against the Centre’s attitude towards the demand for the ILP regime.
CoMSO secretary Roykupar Synrem said that the Centre has failed to respect the decision of the 60 State MLAs by delaying approval to the resolution on ILP implementation, passed by them in the State Assembly last year.
“Therefore, we have decided to fight till we get the ILP. We will also intensify our agitation till the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020 is implemented,” he added.
Synrem also sent a message to the 60 MLAs, three MPs and 90 MDCs of the State that they should not forget that they are in their respective positions due to the mandate given by the people of the State.
“Therefore, if they fail to ensure that Meghalaya gets the ILP and the MRSSAB, it is high time every member of the society came out on to the streets and ensure that the demand for such effective laws was achieved,” he said.
