Tura: MP from Tura Lok Sabha constituency Saleng A Sangma has accused the central government of excluding Meghalaya from flood control projects while neighboring states Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland have been granted such schemes.

Saleng Sangma also criticized the Meghalaya government, led by chief minister Conrad Sangma, for not advocating effectively for these essential projects in New Delhi.

During a tour of the flood-affected plains region of Rajabala and Phulbari, Sangma visited several inundated areas including Chartbatipara, Haribanga, Maulakandi, and surrounding localities.

Traveling by speed boat, he assessed the damage and met with local leaders, reiterating his claims about Meghalaya’s omission from flood control initiatives.

“There has been no proposal for Meghalaya every year and only relief by way of rations is being provided. It is as if Meghalaya did not suffer from any floods all this while,” Sangma stated.

He presented data showing that Manipur received 22 flood-related projects, Nagaland 11, and Mizoram 2, highlighting the disparity in resource allocation.

The Congress MP’s accusations come amid Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma’s recent efforts to address the flood situation.

The Meghalaya chief minister toured the same flood-affected areas of Rajabala, Phulbari, and Tikrikilla the previous week.

During his visit, he inspected relief centers, assessed the distribution of rations, and briefed government officials on the ongoing efforts to aid those impacted by the floods.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma is expected to present this report to central ministers in the near future, seeking support for the state’s flood control measures.
