SHILLONG: Meghalaya Congress, along with members of the Mahila Congress, organized a protest against the controversial citizenship amendment act (CAA) outside the Meghalaya BJP office in Shillong on Thursday (March 14).

Demonstrators from the Meghalaya Youth Congress marched towards the office of the state unit of the BJP carrying placards and chanting slogans against the CAA.

Speaking to the media during the protest, Meghalaya Youth Congress president Adrian Chyne Mylliem highlighted that while Meghalaya benefits from the Sixth Schedule status and is exempt from the CAA, the protest aims to address the bill’s implications for the entire country.

Mylliem described the legislation as anti-minority, expressing concerns about its potential impact on marginalized communities nationwide.

In addition to the demonstration outside the Meghalaya BJP office, Congress workers also staged protests in Police Bazar area in Shillong and in the Garo Hills district of the state, emphasizing their opposition to the CAA and advocating for the protection of minority rights across the country.
