The National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya, on Tuesday, said that the future of the Congress party is bleak.
This remark was made by senior NPP leader and deputy chief minister of Meghalaya – Prestone Tynsong after the results of the by-polls in the state were declared.
Top NPP leaders, including Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi had briefed the media Tuesday evening after the by-polls results were announced.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya chief minister and NPP national president Conrad Sangma thanked the people of the three constituencies who voted the MDA coalition to victory.
“It is a clear mandate in these constituencies. The people have faith in us,” CM Conrad Sangma said.

Notably, the ruling coalition in Meghalaya – the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) secured a comfortable win in the by-elections to three assembly seats in the state.
While the chief minister Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP) won 2 seats, its ally the United Democratic Party (UDP) won one seat.
NPP candidates Abdus Saleh and Pyniaid Sing Syiem secured comfortable wins at Rajabala and Mawryngkneng seats respectively.
UDP candidate Eugeneson Lyngdoh won the Mawphlang constituency.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress drew a blank in the by-elections.
It has, in fact, lost two of the seats that it held earlier to the ruling NPP.
