Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma along with his deputy Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday called on Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
The Meghalaya chief minister expressed that the Union home minister gave a patient hearing to the issues and concerns brought forward by him and the deputy chief minister.
“Discussions on the issues around the Meghalaya Residents’ Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) were taken up to which the Hon’ble Home Minister suggested that the state government and officials of MHA must further discuss the issues of MRSSA and urged them to find an amicable way forward for the same,” the chief minister said in a video message released by the CMO.
The Meghalaya CM reminded Amit Shah about the organizations from Meghalaya who wanted to meet him during his recent visit to Shillong but were unable to do so due to time constraint.
The home minister suggested that they should come to the Parliament to discuss the same, the chief minister said.
“The Union home minister decided to make a two-day visit to Shillong to discuss the revamping of the NEC and has suggested that he would make time to meet the organisations during his two-day stay in Shillong, which will happen in the month of March 2021,” the CM added.
In the meeting, Amit Shah also raised the issue of infiltration.
Regarding the issue, the Meghalaya CM said, “It (infiltration) is an issue of concern not only in Meghalaya but also the Northeast and the whole country.”
The chief minister informed that the Union home minister has assured that he will do everything possible to ensure that the culture, identity and language of the people of Meghalaya and the Northeast is safeguarded at all costs.
“The home minister also stated that the issues of border fencing need to be resolved and expedited,” the CM said.
“He (Amit Shah) mentioned that there are some sections in which the construction has not started yet due to local issues and he has urged the state government to hold talks with stakeholders and ensure all the concerns are addressed and start the work at the earliest,” the Meghalaya CM further said in his video message.
