Justice Biswanath Somadder

Decks cleared for Allahabad HC judge, Justice Biswanath Somadder for the post of the chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

The Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice Sharad A Bobde, has recommended the name of Justice Somadder as the new chief justice of Meghalaya High Court.

Justice Mohammad Rafiq, who is the incumbent chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court, has been transferred as the chief justice of Orissa High Court.

Justice Biswanath Somadder is from Kolkata, and had obtained his degree in law from the University of Calcutta.

He had enrolled as an advocate at the Bar Council of West Bengal in 1989.

For about three months – January 1, 2019 to April 3, 2019 – he also served as the acting chief justice of the Calcutta High Court.

On October 17, 2019, he was transferred as a judge of the Allahabad High Court.
