There seems to be a mismatch in the number of BSF jawans, who tested positive for COVID19 in Meghalaya going by the figures provided by the Meghalaya government and the one shared by Border Security Force (BSF).

While the Meghalaya government stated that only five BSF personnel have tested positive for COVID19, the BSF Meghalaya Frontier on Wednesday confirmed that 11 BSF troopers have tested positive for the virus.

“Till today, 11 COVID-19 patients have been admitted out of which, 1 has been discharged after being recovered and 4 patients have been put under isolation after recovery from COVID-19,” BSF spokesperson UK Nayal said in a statement.

He said the recovery rate of COVID19 in the BSF Composite Hospital is matching with the national recovery rate at 59.7 per cent.

Nayal said all these patients are BSF personnel and are recuperating or some recovered at the BSF hospital here.

He also informed that all precautions are being taken by the BSF to stop the spread of the virus.

In Meghalaya, the BSF has created 25 quarantine centres where 1,561 BSF persons were de-quarantined after completion of the quarantine period and 1,033 BSF persons are presently quarantining in quarantine centers,” the BSF official said.

“To stop the spread of COVID-19 within the campus, proper screening and sanitization of every entrance are being done with the help of the administration of the BSF Frontier Headquarters, Meghalaya,” Nayal added.

Earlier, health minister AL Hek informed that only five BSF personnel tested positive for COVID19 in the state.

“The BSF might have included the data of those troopers who have tested positive in other states. But five BSF troopers as of now have tested positive for COVID19 in Meghalaya,” Hek reiterated.
