Renowned actor Adil Hussain starrer Khasi film Lorni – The Flaneur has been selected for screening at the First Feature Competition of the cutting-edge Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival of Estonia.

Lorni – The Flaneur is the debut feature film directed by Meghalaya filmmaker Wanphrang Diengdoh.

According to reports, Lorni – The Flaneur is the only Indian film selected for the First Feature Competition of the festival along with seven other titles from across the globe.

CineEuropa.org quoted the festival’s founder director Tina Lokk as saying, “It is a great honour and an even greater responsibility to host the world premiere of an artist’s debut, thus extra-special consideration is always given by the team to the selection of these films.”

In Lorni – The Flaneur, Diengdoh will present the story of Shem played by Life of Pi fame Adil Hussain, who hails from Assam.

In the movie a struggling private investigator is finally given a chance to escape his everyday, humdrum existence when he comes across an unusual robbery.

According to reports, the movie is influenced by Charles Baudelaire.

It sees the protagonist wandering the streets of a labyrinth-like city, bubbling with racial tensions.

The full line-up will be revealed next week. Here is the list of titles announced so far:

Apart from Lorni – The Flaneur, the movies which are in the line-up selected so far are – Looted – Rene Pannevis (UK), Mater – Jure Pavlovi? (Croatia/ Serbia/ France/ Bosnia-Herzegovina) and A Dog’s Death – Matías Ganz (Uruguay/ France/ Argentina).

The five other selected movies are Saul at Night – Cory Santilli (USA), The Seeker – Bernardo Barreto (Brazil), Dust and Ashes – Park Hee-kwon (South Korea) and The Names of the Flowers – Bahman Tavoosi (Bolivia/Qatar/USA/Canada).

International debuts by promising new filmmakers will be showcased in the competition.

The competition will be overseen by an international jury which will be announced later in this month.
