A total of 2,100 migrant workers, who stranded in Meghalaya in view of the anti-COVID19 lockdown and staying in 25 relief camps, are being provided food.

Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said the migrant workers are being provided food and shelter in 25 relief camps set up in different districts of the state.

Out of 25 camps, 7 relief camps are in East Khasi Hills district, 8 in West Garo Hills, 3 in East Jaiñtia Hills, 2 each in Ri Bhoi and North Garo Hills and 1 each in West Jaiñtia Hills, South West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills.

Each camp has a para-medical team looking after the health of the workers.

As far as construction workers are concerned, the Meghalaya government is providing an amount of Rs 1,000 per week per worker.

The government is also implementing the Chief Minister’s Relief Against Wage Loss (CRAWL) scheme for daily wage earners/ small traders including hawkers at Rs 700 per week per person.
