Meghalaya Chief Minister and chief of National People’s Party (NPP) Conrad K Sangma registered a massive victory from South Tura constituency in the by-elections results of which were declared a little while ago.
Conrad defeated Congress candidate Charlotte W Momin by a margin of 8420 votes.

Conrad Sangma polled 13656 votes and defeated his nearest Congress rival, who polled only 5235 votes,
Conrad led all the way from the very first round of counting.
Counting of votes began at 8 am at the Extension Training Centre near the SMELC Building at Dakopgre in Tura.
However, NPP candidate MM Danggo lost to United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Pius Marwein by a margin of 4462 votes for the Ranikor constituency.
While Marwein polled 7144 votes, Danggo polled 2682 votes.
Counting of votes for the Ranikor constituency also began at 8 am at the Deputy Commissioner’s office of Mawkyrwat.
Earlier taking a dig at opposition Congress, which fielded debutants Charlotte W Momin from South Tura and Jackiush Sangma from Ranikor, the Conrad had said that the results will reflect the ‘kind of situation the party is going through’ at present.
Conrad in his official Twitter handle had also wrote earlier:
Thank you #South Tura for being supportive in my campaign. I am confident that the outcome will be the response of our people and their faith in democracy.
Later immediately after the results were declared, Conrad twitted: Thank you #SouthTura for believing in NPP and me.
