The district administration in collaboration with the office of the district child protection at Khliehriat inaugurated its first Child Line Centre for Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district on Saturday.

State minister for social welfare, Kyrmen Shylla, attended the inaugural programme as a chef guest along with other government officials.

Shylla lauded the efforts of the deputy commissioner, the district child protection office and other departments and stake holders for setting up this Child Line centre in East Jaintia Hills.

He urged one and all to work dedicatedly for the welfare of destitute children.

The minister further said that the government will work out measures to address the menace of drug addiction in the region.

The minister further assured that the government will try to provide free and compulsory education to children below 14 years.

Deputy commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District F M Dopth expressed gratitude to all those who contributed towards making the Child Line centre a reality.

He called upon all the staff working at the Child Line centre to work with love, compassion, commitment and dedication for the future of the children.

District Child Protection Officer of Khliehriat, Teibor Kyndiah, gave a brief explanation about the works of Child Line.

He said that Child Line is a national 24 hours free, phone emergency outreach service for children in need of care and protection. Child Line is supported by the Union Ministry of Woman and Child Development and link State Government, NGOs, allied system and corporate sector.
