The National People’s Party is likely to get some Congress legislators and one of them is Ranikor MLA, Martin M Danggo who has been in close contact with the party leadership.

Danggo’s move to resign as Congress MLA, and join the NPP is imminent with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and other ministers as well as NPP leaders visiting Ranikor on Tuesday.

The visit of NPP leaders to Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills district could be to inform the people that the demand to make Ranikor a civil sub division would be fulfilled.

Danggo and other organizations from Ranikor have been pursuing with the state government to create a civil sub division at Ranikor.

When asked if the visit to Ranikor is a kind of preparation for Danggo and his supporters to come to the NPP, Tynsong evaded a direct reply saying, “the visit to Ranikor is to get more energy.”

He even asked media persons to also visit Ranikor on Tuesday and get first hand information from there.

Commenting on the failure of the Congress–led government to make Ranikor a civil sub division Mukul Sangma was the chief minister, Tynsong said, “the MLA of Ranikor (Danggo) kept on asking from the government to make Ranikor a civil sub division, but the Congress government did not do. If Mukul wishes, it can be done. But if he does not wish, it will not be done. He was the chief minister and he runs the government as if it is a company. Congress is out because of him (Mukul). He single handedly wanted to do things and he failed. Even me, I came out of the Congress of the leadership of Mukul.”

Recently, Danggo met the chief minister, deputy chief minister and other ministers and pursued with the government the need to create the civil sub division at Ranikor to fulfill the long pending demand of the people of the area.

The chief minister has assured to look into the demand and considered it a genuine one.

According to Tynsong, Ranikor covers vast area, and it is very far for the people to go to Mawkyrwat, the district headquarters of South West Khasi.

“The objective of the MDA government is to take the administration close to the people,” he said.

The previous Congress-led government has created an Administrative Unit at Ranikor instead of the civil sub division.
