Meghalaya BJP has nominated Annasa Stasia as the new president of BJP women’s wing, in place of Pelcy Snaitang who had resigned from the post and left the party last month.

Stasia’s nomination followed after a meeting of the state Mahila Morcha held in BJP office here on Tuesday. All district Mahila Morchas attended the meeting.

The nomination was given to Statia by state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh.

On July 30, Snaitang who was also the BJP candidate from Ranikor Assembly constituency in the February-27 Assembly elections resigned as president of the BJP state Mahila Morcha.

She claimed that she and her supporters had lost confidence in the leadership of the state BJP president.

After leaving the BJP, Snaitang along with some leaders from Ranikor constituency had met UDP vice president, Allantry Franklin Dkhar and decided to support UDP candidate, Pius Marweiñ in the upcoming by-election to Ranikor constituency slated for August 23.

Marweiñ is contesting against former Assembly Speaker and five-time MLA, Martin M Danggo, besides Congress candidate, Jackius Sangma and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) leader P N Syiem.
