#MaskUpModi has become one of the most trending hashtags in Twitter after PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. 

During his Kanpur visit, PM Narendra Modi was seen mostly without a mask. 

He also interacted with the students of IIT-Kanpur without wearing a mask and maintaing social distance.

Notably, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is already threatening to break free in India with 781 cases being detected till Wednesday morning. 

With rising cases of Omicron in India, PM Modi’s “no mask stunt” has irked social media users. 

One of the Twitter users wrote: “He lives in a make-believe world where only he and cameras exist; and for benefit of cameras, he waves at non-existent people.”

Twitter users also shared old pictures of PM Modi of his earlier foreign visits, where he could be seen without a mask while interacting with French Prime Minister Emanuel Macron.

Notably, on December 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, during his “Man ki baat” address had warned people in India to not lose their guard against COVID-19, especially with the arrival of Omicron variant that could trigger another wave of the pandemic.
