Manipur martyrdom

The 23rd Martyrdom Anniversary of Saheed Madhumangol was held at Lamyanba Shanglen hall in Imphal on Thursday. The observation was organized by Saheed Madhumangol Foundation, Imphal.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh was the chief guest of the anniversary function.

Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh, Minister for Education Th Radheshyam, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Y Khemchand, Chairman Hill Areas Committee TT Haokip, Chairman Manipur Tourism Corporation Limited Dr Sapam Ranjan, Chairman PDA, Manipur T Robindro Singh, MLAs S Subashchandra, N Indrajit, Chairperson of Saheed Madhumangol  Foundation S Satyabhama Devi and others also attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren Singh said that patriotic feelings and ideas of an individual can never be concealed by any means. He said Saheed Madhumangol’s ideology ‘Nation-first and self-last’ and valuable contributions are indeed remarkable.

Appealing to the people of the State to think for the larger interest of the society by leaving aside the self-interest, he said that the lust for power has ruined the region.

Stressing that youths especially the boys of the State are infected by drugs and alcohol, he added, the new government is a ray of hope to overcome such menace and various other problems in the State.

He informed that in such a short span of 10 months, the State is experiencing drastic change in terms of reducing the hill-valley gap, division among communities in the State etc.

Things have changed in the State, he added.  He said that people are raising the slogan ‘We are One’ from every corner of the State.

Stating the significance of remembering such a visionary leader of the State, the Chief Minister assured that the government would discuss about organizing such functions as a State-level function in future.

In the day’s function, Vice Chancellor Prof Kuldip Chand Agnihotri of Central University of Himachal Pradesh, presented the memorial lecture on Saheed Madhumangol under the theme ‘Integral Humanism’.
