Guwahati: In a strategic move, two battalions of the Assam Rifles (AR) are being redeployed from Manipur to Jammu and Kashmir to bolster counter-terror operations in the Union Territory.

The relocation is said to be a part of a routine exercise to optimize force deployment for the effective neutralization of terrorists.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will assume security responsibilities in the areas previously covered by the two AR battalions, comprising approximately 1,500 soldiers.

The remaining AR battalions in Manipur will continue to perform dual roles of counter-insurgency and border-guarding.

The deployment of AR soldiers, renowned for their counter-insurgency expertise, is expected to enhance anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The move follows a review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess the security situation in the region.
