Legendary boxer from Manipur, MC Mary Kom on Thursday lost to Colombia’s Ingrit Valencia 2-3 in the round of 16 of the 51 kg boxing event at Tokyo Olympics 2020.
But Mary Kom, who won a bronze medal at London Olympics, put up a memorable fight at Tokyo Olympics, said the Boxing Federation of India.
Sharing the news of Thursday’s match, the Boxing Federation of India on its Twitter handle wrote: “London

The game started at 03:35 PM (IST).
It was Ingrit’s first win in 3 attempts against the Indian boxer.
According to a match report, Mary Kom did not have the best of starts to the match on Thursday as Ingrit went on the offensive from the word go.

The 32-year-old boxer from Colombia used her experience to push 38-year-old Mary Kom on the back foot early, taking the first round 4-1.
Winning the final round, Colombian boxer Ingrit was able to defeat Mary Kom 3-2.

Despite her defeat, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh while recognising Mary Kom’s efforts in the ring said she gave the toughest fight against her opponent.
The Manipur CM tweeted that May Kom will “always be a winner”. The whole country is proud of her, he said.

Earlier, Mary Kom defeated Miguelina Hernandez Garcia of Dominican Republic 4-1 on spit decision and entered the round of 16.
In her match with Garcia, Mary Kom displayed extravagant energy from the very beginning as she pinned her opponent on the ropes.
