The Teacher’s Day celebration was widely observed in Manipur on Thursday.
The state level Teacher’s Day celebration 2019 was organized under the aegis of education department in Imphal with active participation of a number of students and teachers.
The state chief minister N Biren Singh, education minister Th Radheshyam Singh, top officials of the education department including commissioners H Gyan Prakash (State Council for Educational Research and Training), Kh Raghumani Singh(Higher and Technical Education), T Ranjit Singh(School Education), directors Th Kirankumar (Schools), director W Malemnganba (Higher and Technical) attended the celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, chief minister N Biren said that what we are today is because of the teachers.
The true essence of celebrating Teacher’s Day is to show gratitude, respect and recognition for their selfless sacrifice to nurture the pillars of the Nation, he said.
Maintaining that teachers should not encourage their students for agitations as the learning period for students are limited, he appealed the teachers to restrict the influence of unknown persons in groups to the students for taking part in agitations.
He said the state government will not hesitate to be at the forefront in dealing with issues which affects the interest of the State.
Expressing happiness for creating history in this year’s matriculation examination results, he said the government schools have recorded highest pass percentage of 74.6 percent since the establishment of the state board in 1972.
He also informed the gathering around 1000 drop-out students were readmitted to the government schools till now under ‘Lairik Tamhanlasi’ mission which was launched to encourage the students enrolled in government schools by providing financial assistance for admission/tution fees,unforms and books.
Under the ‘School Fagathansi’ mission, pre-nursery classes will be opened in the identified 60 schools across the State.
Under ‘School Fagat-Hansi’ mission, an initiative, the government aims to give renewed thrust towards the improvement of government schools both in terms of physical and manpower infrastructure in 60 Assembly Constituencies of the State.
In his speech, education minister Th Radheshyam said that teachers play a vital role in nation building and fulfilling the dreams and destiny of the students adding that there is no other noble profession than teaching profession.
He also informed that every school in the State will have ‘No School Bag day’ for class I-VIII on every Saturday to ensure that students shall be taught extra-curricular activities, games and sports etc.
Eight teachers Waikhom Ritabai Chanu, Arambam Rajmata Devi, Ayekpam Sangeeta Devi, Aribam Indubala Devi, Longjam Manglembi Devi, Hemam Rajen Singh, Hena Singsit and Mayanglambam Manglem Singh were also awarded state Teacher’s Award during the occasion.
