Police arrested three persons on charges of being involved in an ATM robbery case in Manipur, which led to the killing of a security guard of a cash replenishment agency.

Police sources said the three arrested persons are employees of Writers Safeguard Group (WSG), a cash replenishment agency that is sub-contracted by State Bank of India (SBI) for cash management.

The arrested persons have been identified as V Thangkhanmuan (40) of V Munhoih village, Churachandpur; K Somen Singh (36) of Khuga Tampak at Zoveng in Churachandpur and Kongkham Brojen Singh (40) of Bamon Kampu in Imphal, sources said.

The ongoing police effort has led to the recovery of Rs 20 lakh from the possession of one accused arrested person, it added.

The police also detected the man who planned the ATM robbery case in Churachandpur district during its course of the investigation.

Sources claimed Brojen planned the robbery and it was executed by Somen in connivance with Thangkhanmuan for which he had given his licensed 0.32 calibre revolver and 6 rounds of ammunition.

Further investigation is underway.

On September 4 around 10.30 am, unidentified armed miscreants struck at an ATM cash loading vehicle in Churachandpur town and fled away with about Rs 1.15 crore in cash after shooting a WSG security guard, identified as Arambam Ranjan (37) while he was sitting alone in the vehicle.

Ranjan was a resident of Zoveng Khuga Tampak in Churachandpur.

Since then, the locals have been demanding the arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.

Demanding necessary punishment to the accused, the women folks of the Langdum area in Imphal East district also took out a protest rally on Tuesday.
