The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has reached the Northeast.
The first Omicron case of the region has been detected in Manipur.
A foreign returnee has been tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Manipur.
A 48-year-old man, who recently had returned from Tanzania has been tested positive for Omicron.
The man, hailing from Imphal West, was tested positive for COVID-19 on December 21.
Later, his sample was sent for genome sequencing at the IBSD Takyelpat in Imphal that confirmed he was infected with the Omicron variant.
The person is currently being treated at the JNIMS Hospital in Imphal.
Moreover, three more family members of the man have also tested positive for COVID-19.
