Legendary boxer from Manipur MC Mary Kom has won her round of 32 bout and has advanced into the pre-quarter final of the 51 kg boxing event underway at the Tokyo Olympics. 

‘Magnificent’ Mary defeated Miguelina Hernandez Garcia of Dominican Republic 4-1 on spit decision to enter the pre-quarter final round. 

The London Olympics bronze medallist displayed extravagant energy from the very beginning as she pinned her opponent on the ropes. 

In table tennis, India’s medal hope Manika Batra pulled an upset in her Round 2 match defeating World No 32 Margaryta Pesotska from Ukraine.

She overcame 2-0 deficit to pull off a 4-3 win over Pesotska in just under an hour. Batra will now be up against 10th seed Sofia Polcanova in the Round 3 match. 

On the other hand, ace shuttler PV Sindhu opened her campaign in the Tokyo Games on Sunday with an easy win against Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel. 

Sindhu won the match Sindhu won the match comfortably 21-7, 21-10. 

Meanwhile, India’s Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls Repechage team has also qualified for the semi-finals.
