Imphal: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 56-year-old woman and injured her husband on Thursday afternoon in Manipur‘s Imphal West district.
The couple, identified as Ningthoujam (O) Manileima and Ningthoujam Muhindro (60), residents of Khongjam Zone I, Imphal East, were riding a two-wheeler when they were struck from behind by a Tipper Tata truck near the Imphal Police station gate.
The impact of the collision resulted in the immediate death of Manileima. Her body has been sent to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for a post-mortem examination.
Her husband, Muhindro, sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
The driver of the Tata truck has been apprehended by the police, and the vehicle has been seized.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the driver.
