The management of municipal wastes in Imphal West district will now become possible after the new Waste to Energy Plant becomes functional.

The plant that has been built at Lamdeng in the district will treat the waste matter and convert it to energy.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh virtually inaugurated the solid waste management plant on Tuesday.

The plant would be generating 600 kw of electricity in the first phase, for which the Manipur government had successfully conducted the trial run.

“Development and progress of any country or state primarily relay on energy position. Glad to have inaugurated Waste to Energy Plant located at Lamdeng, Imphal West through video conferencing. Now, we have a plant that generates energy from municipal waste materials,” N Biren Singh tweeted.

The Manipur government also has plans to set up a mini solid waste management plant close to the one in Lamdeng to treat more solid waste.
