IMPHAL: Security forces launched an operation at Moreh College area in Tengnoupal district of Manipur, bordering Myanmar to the south on Friday, resulting in the apprehension of one suspected militant and the seizure of two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), one battery, and fuse wires.
This marks the first instance of an arrest involving suspects with IEDs since ethnic violence erupted between two communities in Manipur.
Acting on intelligence indicating an individual was attempting to transport explosive materials on National Highway 102 near Moreh College in Chikim village, security forces initiated the operation.
During a frisking and checking operation, the suspected militant, riding a two-wheeler, was intercepted.
Subsequent inspection led to the discovery of two IEDs, a battery, and fuse wires in a bag carried on the bike.
The apprehended suspect was identified as Sholen Haoikpi, also known as Lelin, aged 40, a resident of Mission Veng in Moreh and son of Helmang Haokii.
The suspect, along with the seized items and impounded two-wheeler, was handed over to Moreh police station for further legal proceedings and investigations.
