Manipur: UNC, TNL call for probe into bomb attack on Naga leader's residence

Imphal: Two prominent organisations representing the Naga community in the region have demanded a throughout investigation into the bomb attacks at the residence of Naga leader and Manipur Cabinet Minister Khashim Vashum.

The United Naga Council (UNC) and the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), condemned the September 14 bomb attack at the residence of the Transport Minister in Ukhrul.

Ukhurl is predominantly inhabited by the Tangkhul Nagas.

The UNC has called for a thorough investigation into the incident by relevant authorities urging that those responsible be met with stringent and exemplary punishment.

The TNL also organized a condemnation rally in Ukhrul district headquarters on September 16, 2024, and submitted a memorandum to the concerned district commissioner.

The memorandum among others demanded an expedited investigation to apprehend those responsible for the attack, urged the district administration to implement stricter public safety measures, monitor the entry of non-locals into Ukhrul, and install CCTV cameras at key intersections to enhance security.

Though there was no causality in the attack, the bomb explosion raised critical questions about the security of political leaders and ordinary citizens in the district, leaders said.

So far no outfit or individuals claimed responsibility for the attacks.
