In view of the increasing number of COVID-19 patients in Manipur, the state government is taking up the necessary steps to open a new COVID care centre.

The new COVID care centre would be opened at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre located at Lamboikhongnangkhong locality in Imphal West District.

The new COVID care centre, which will initially have 300 beds, is almost ready for inauguration, according to officials reports available here. In the beginning, the Centre will have four blocks.

Currently, there are some COVID care centres across the state.

In an order to oversee the ongoing preparation works, the Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar and Health Minister L Jayantakumar visited Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong near Imphal on Saturday.

High-level officials of the State Government including Dr Rajesh Kumar, who has been given the charge of the Chief Secretary, also accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection visit.

During the day’s inspection visit, Chief Minister Biren Singh expressed satisfaction on seeing the work progress. However, he instructed the concerned officials to upgrade it to a 1000-bedded Centre as it has enough space for extension.

Enquiring the officials about electrification and power connections as well, Biren also checked the furniture and other essentials including toilet facilities of all the four blocks.

The state Chief Minister also directed the concerned officials to keep the COVID care centre ready for admission of COVID patients by tomorrow. As such, it is likely that the Centre would start functioning within a few days.

According to sources available here, there are more than 1000 COVID 19 active cases and while more than 3000 persons are staying at various quarantine centres. More than 60,000 others have completed quarantine.
