Imphal: The Manipur government will provide ex-gratia compensation to families of individuals who died from hypertension during recent communal violence, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Tuesday.

The announcement came during a discussion in the state assembly, where opposition Congress MLA Kangujam Ranjit raised concerns about the deaths of five elderly individuals, including three women, in Sugnu village.

These individuals reportedly succumbed to high blood pressure triggered by bombardments and gunfire during attacks by militants between February 14th and 23rd, 2024.

Chief Minister Singh instructed district commissioners to collect details of such cases based on available reports. He emphasized that the government would compensate families who lost loved ones due to hypertension arising from the ongoing violence.

This development comes amidst ongoing communal clashes in Manipur, which have resulted in casualties and heightened tensions.
