IMPHAL: Three active cadres of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), also known as People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-UPPK) were arrested on Friday, the Manipur police said on Saturday.

The trio, who were arrested from the Bazaar area of the Imphal West district in Manipur were involved in the extortion of money from various establishments.

Various incriminating items were also seized from their possession.

A case has been registered for further investigation and they have been remanded into police custody by judicial magistrate.

Set up on November 6, 2008, by a split away faction of PREPAK, the UPPK also known as PREPAK-UPPK, and its armed wing Kangleipak People’s Army (KPA) were completely dissolved on April 04, 2016, according to the official sources.

The UPPK came into existence with the primary objective of restoring the lost sovereignty of Manipur, it signed an MoU with the Governments at the center and state on May 24, 2013. Since then the UPPK cadres have been strictly adhering to the cease-fire ground rules.
