Tripura Assam Manipur: Smuggling ring busted, drugs worth Rs 9.59 crore seized

Imphal: The Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Customs Division in Imphal, Manipur arrested two suspected smugglers and seized illicit drugs worth Rs 9.59 crore in the regional markets.

Acting on specific intelligence, the unit launched operations at different locations, leading to the apprehension of Md Ayub Khan and Md Akbar Khan.

Khan, a resident of Leihaokhong Mathak Leikai, was nabbed near a petrol pump in Imphal while possessing 1.73 kilograms of brown sugar believed to be of Myanmar origin.

The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth Rs 8.66 crore in the international market.

In a separate operation, Md Akbar Khan, residing in Kiyamgei Makha Leikai, was apprehended near North AOC Imphal West.

Khan was found carrying 9,300 Amphetamine tablets suspected to be of foreign origin, valued at Rs 93 lakh in the international market.

Both individuals have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
