IMPHAL: Unidentified armed miscreants looted the State Bank of India’s (SBI) branch office at Babupara in Jiribam district of Manipur on Monday (May 20) night, officials informed on Tuesday (May 21).

Approximately Rs 30,500 were looted by the miscreants from the SBI’s Jiribam branch.

The theft was discovered by the staff of the SBI Jiribam Branch in Manipur upon opening the office on Tuesday (May 21) morning.

CCTV footage revealed that the armed miscreants broke into the bank through a window around 9:30 PM on Monday (May 20).

One of the miscreants was seen wearing a mask and hat, and was shirtless.

The SBI branch operates within the shopping complex of the Jiribam Municipal Council in Babupara, Jiribam district headquarters of Manipur.

Notably, Jiribam district in Manipur shares a border with the Cachar district in Assam.

Following a complaint lodged by the SBI Jiribam branch manager, Jiribam district police have registered a case and are actively working to apprehend the culprits.

This incident marks the second bank looting in Manipur this month.

On May 02, approximately Rs 15 lakh was looted from an SBI branch in K Salbung village, Churachandpur district of Manipur by unidentified armed miscreants.
