Manipur on Tuesday recorded 269 new COVID-19 cases; the second-highest single-day spike of cases after the highest single-day spike was recorded on Monday with 270 cases.

In the last 24 hours, 231 persons including 89 females from the general population and 38 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID 19 cases, the COVID-19 common control room said in a press release on Tuesday.

The positive cases were detected from 26 COVID testing facilities.

The new positive civilians are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Kamjong, Noney, Kakching, Jiribam, Bishnupur, Senapati, Churachandpurand Thoubal districts, the release added.

Four civilians are returnees from other states and the rest are local residents without any significant travel history, the release added.

They are being shifted to COVID care facilities.

In the past 24 hours, 57 persons were also discharged from the RIMS, JNIMS, and four other COVID care facilities, it said.

A 51-year-old female patient from Imphal East expired at JNIMS in the past 24 hours, the release said.

With it, the total COVID-19 death in the state rose to 65.

The total number of positive cases in Manipur stands at 10,746 while the cumulative numbers of discharged cases stand at 8,039, the release stated.

The number of active cases is 2,642. The recovery rate in the State is 74.80 per cent, the release added.

The state health department also appealed to self-isolate and contact the COVID control room or chief medical officer for testing if anyone has contact with a positive person saying “Together, we can break the COVID chain.”
