IMPHAL: Personnel of the Manipur police and Assam Rifles, in a joint operation, recovered and seized illegal drugs worth around Rs 2.5 crore in international black market.

The seizure of the drugs also resulted in the arrest two alleged drug smugglers.

The seizure of the drugs followed an intelligence report indicating smuggling of a large quantity of illicit drugs into Tengnoupal district of Manipur from Myanmar.

A combined team comprising Manipur police officials and personnel from Moreh and Tengnoupal districts, along with Assam Rifles troopers conducted a raid on a suspected hotspot in Canan Veng area in the border town of Moreh in Manipur near the Myanmar border.

During the operation, two suspected smugglers, identified as Tongkhohao Haokip (44) and Jamkholun Baite (48), both residents of Canan Veng village in Moreh, Manipur were apprehended.

The raid resulted in the seizure of approximately 80,000 pieces of World is Yours (WY) tablets, a type of synthetic drug, valued at about Rs 2.5 crores in the black markets.

Additionally, law enforcement agencies recovered two mobile phones, Rs 400 in cash, and an auto-rickshaw believed to have been used for transporting the illegal items.

A total of nine large packets and one open packet of WY tablets, weighing approximately 11.740 kilograms including the weight of packaging materials, were confiscated during the operation.

Subsequently, a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 for further investigation, as stated in the Manipur police morning reports issued on Friday (March 22).
