Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey inaugurated the first edition of the North East India Film Festival (NEIFF 2024), at the Palace Auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal on Sunday.

A total of eight films – six from Assam and – one each from host Manipur and Meghalaya are being showcased in the festival which has cash awards in eight categories -Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Special Jury Award among others.

The festival is being organised by THOUNA, Manipur in association with DIPR, Art and Culture and Film Forum, Manipur, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India.

The festival aims to provide an opportunity for filmmakers to exchange the art and technical qualities of filmmaking in the region.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the Governor said, that North East India, with its rich cultural and artistic talents, will produce quality films to improve society at this critical juncture of social change.

She further said, Manipuri cinema has been continuously growing, starting with 35 mm black and white films. Videos have also contributed to the world of Manipuri cinema. The festival will last till the 7th of this month.
