Team B of Eastern Sporting Union (ESU) of Wangkhei in Imphal East lifted the title of the Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao (State Level 7 A-side Under-17 Girls) Football Tournament 2019.

ESU defeated AMMA team of Andro village, also from Imphal East district, by 2-1 goals.

The final match of the girls’ tournament was organized by the district administration of Imphal East at Chumthang Sannapung located at Langthabal in Imphal West district on Monday, DIPR sources said.

State’s revenue minister Karam Shyam and forest minister Th Shyamkumar were present during the closing ceremony of the tourney.

The closing ceremony was also attended by P Renedy Singh, president of the Football Players’ Association of India, Arjun Awardee footballer Oinam Bembem Devi and renowned footballer Ngangom Bala Devi.

MLAs S Subhashchandra Singh (Naoria Pakhanglakpa), Th Satyabarta Singh (Yaiskul), principal secretary (social welfare/health & family welfare) V. Vumlunmang and Imphal East deputy commissioner Dr Rangitabali Waikhom also attended the closing function.

Highlighting the activities of the women in diverse fields, revenue minister Shyam, while addressing the function, expressed the need to encourage the women to start taking part in electoral politics.

He also appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that women should be saved and given proper education apart from ensuring them of their deserving rights.

In his speech, minister Shyamkumar stated that skills like courage and hard work are required in the game of football and expressed that after watching the football match, he feels Manipur women will continue to take a big responsibility in sports in the future.

The principal secretary and the Imphal East DC also spoke on the occasion.

Army personnel, Zilla Parishad members of Imphal East & West districts, other officials and locals of Langthabal constituency were also present.

E-Slates were distributed among the Anganwadi children.

Re-usable sanitary pads were distributed to the girl children of the government and government-aided schools.

Baby talent show, Ningol Singgi Seishak Sheidanaba and film documentaries were some innovative measures undertaken under Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao by the district administration of Imphal East.
