Imphal: Manipur Police has strengthened its capabilities to combat cybercrimes with the inauguration of a Cyber Lab at the Thoubal District police headquarters.

The lab, a social media monitoring cell, will enable the police to investigate cyber-related cases more effectively and comprehensively.

Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh inaugurated the lab on Tuesday, emphasizing its importance in the digital age. The Central government has allocated Rs 10.33 crore to the state to support its efforts to combat cybercrime.

Even before the lab’s official opening, the police demonstrated its commitment to addressing cybercrime by arresting Sanatomba Aheibam, a resident of Imphal West district, for sharing defamatory content on social media.

A case was registered against Aheibam under sections 67 and 67-A of the Information Technology Act based on complaints and evidence provided by affected parties.

The Cyber Lab’s establishment marks a significant step forward in Manipur’s efforts to protect its citizens from cyber threats and ensure the safety of online spaces.
