Manipur Congress general secretary M Prithiviraj Singh joined the BJP on Friday ahead of party president JP Nadda’s visit to the state.

BJP national president JP Nadda is scheduled to visit poll-bound Manipur on Saturday.

M Prithiviraj Singh represented the Moirang Assembly constituency after winning the Assembly elections two times.

On Thursday, M Prithviraj Singh quit the Congress party and submitted his resignation letter as the general secretary of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC.

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, who is in Manipur ahead of party president JP Nadda’s visit to the state, said M Prithviraj Singh joined the BJP at a programme in presence of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.

He also informed that the event was also attended by Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi and MLA Moirang MLA Pukhrem Sharatchandra Singh.

“Today Participated in the Joining of the General Secretay of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Sh Prithviraj Singh ji into BJP in the presence of CM Sh@NBirenSinghji, President @BJP4Manipur Smt @AShardaDevi ji & MLA Moirang Sh Sharat ji,” BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted.

Manipur is one of the six BJP-ruled states where Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in 2022.

N Biren Singh was sworn in as Manipur’s first BJP chief minister in 2017 after the party formed a coalition government in the state.

The BJP won 21 of the 60 Assembly seats and formed the government in Manipur with the help of other parties, including the National People’s Party (NPP).
