Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh appealed for reconciliation among the state’s diverse communities while addressing the state’s pressing issues during the 133rd Patriots’ Day observance in Manipur.
The Manipur CM addressed the ongoing conflict that has gripped the state since May of last year.
He acknowledged that the central government’s support in providing security and essential services but stressed that reconciliation efforts must not come at the expense of the state’s core issues.
He called for collective action to restore peace and stability.
The event, held at BT Park, commemorated the martyrs of the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War.
The ceremony began with Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh paying tribute to Hicham Yaichampat and the Temple of Thangal General, followed by wreath-laying ceremonies at Kangla and Saheed Minar.
These sites hold deep historical significance as the execution grounds of Bir Tikendrajit and General Thangal on August 13, 1891.
In his address, Singh stressed on the importance of unity among all Manipuris, irrespective of caste, community, or political affiliations.
He said that while peaceful coexistence is essential, the state must continue to prioritize its ongoing struggles and core issues.
Reflecting on the bravery of Manipuri martyrs who resisted British colonial rule, Singh highlighted the recent renaming of Mount Harriat in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Mount Manipur by the Indian government, honoring the sacrifices of these freedom fighters.
