An Assam Rifles commanding officer along with his family members and three security personnel were killed when their convoy was ambushed by militants in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Friday.

The incident took place around 10 am near S Sehken village in Singngat subdivision.

Col Viplav Tripathi, his wife and son died and three Assam Rifles jawans died on the spot while at least six Assam Rifles personnel were injured in the attack.

The officer was travelling with his family members and a Quick Reaction Team when the attack happened.

The injured AR jawans have been admitted to Behiang Primary Health Centre.

Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh strongly condemned the ambush and said that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
