Manipur’s bodybuilder Thiyam Dayananda Singh has brought laurels to his state and the country by winning gold at the 11th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (WBPF) 2019.

The event was held recently at Jeju island in South Korea.

Thiyam Dayananda Singh, a Havildar in the Indian Army, hails from Yairipok in Thoubal district of Manipur.

Thiyam won the gold medal in 100 kg weight category.

The World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship is organized by World Bodybuilding And Physique Sports Federation.

Informing about the win by the army man, the army ADGPI of the Army on its Tweeter handle on Saturday stated: “11th World #Bodybuilding And #PhysiqueSports Federation #WBPF Chamionship was held at #JujuIsland, #South Korea. Havildar Thiyam Dayanad of #IndianArmy won #GoldMedal in 100 Kg Weight Category.”

Thiyam studied at DM College Campus near Chingmeirong in Imphal.

Earlier, the All Manipur Bodybuilders’ Association (AMBBA) greeted all the athletes from Manipur including Thiyam for their commendable performances at the championship.

In the 55 kg weight category, athlete from Manipur, L Neta Singh finished 5th while Arambam Mangal Singh finished 4th in the Men’s Open Physique competition at the championship.

Indian Railways’ Arambam Boby, who also represented India at the event in the 80 kg weight category, clinched his record 8th Mr World title.

Earlier, Thiyam bagged his first senior title in men’s 85 kg category.

Chitharesh Natesan emerged as the first Indian to be crowned Mr Universe 2019 at the 11th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship (WBPF) 2019.
