Imphal: In a major crackdown on timber smuggling, Assam Rifles troops apprehended 12 individuals and seized timber worth Rs 28.25 lakh along the Manipur-Myanmar border on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Acting on intelligence reports about large-scale illegal timber trade, Assam Rifles personnel intercepted twelve trucks laden with timber in the Z Choro region of Kamjong district, bordering Myanmar.

Upon inspection, the team discovered that the twelve drivers, all from Manipur, were transporting approximately 3,324 cubic feet of timber without valid documentation.

The market value of the seized timber is estimated to be Rs 28.25 lakh.

The apprehended individuals along with the confiscated timber were handed over to the Forest Beat Officer of Kamjong District for further investigation and legal proceedings.
