The Manipur Government has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for Tokyo Olympics Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra. 

The announcement was made by Manipur chief minister Biren Singh late on Saturday evening after a meeting of the state cabinet. 

“On this historic day where India bagged an Olympic Gold medal in an athletic event after 100 years, the Manipur State Cabinet has decided to honour the Javelin throw Gold medalist @Neeraj_chopra1 by extending a reward of Rs 1 Crore. Congratulations on this historic win, Neeraj,” Manipur CM Biren Singh tweeted.

Neeraj Chopra scripted history on Saturday after becoming the first Indian to win an individual gold medal in athletics at Olympics. 

Neeraj Chopra won the first gold medal for India at Tokyo Olympics 2020 with his second throw of 87.58 m in the finals of javelin event at the Tokyo Olympics. 

Chopra became only the second player from India after shooter Abhinav Bindra to win an individual Gold at Olympics.
