The Manipur Government has announced that elections to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) in hill districts would be held by June 25.
This was informed by Manipur Additional Chief Secretary (Tribal Affairs and Hills) – Letkhogin Haokip.
The announcement came following a meeting between the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM), the Demand Committee for Creation of ADCs, and relevant Government departments.
However, ATSUM stated that the decision to conduct the polls by June 25 is a “government decision” and that no such agreement was made between the State Government and ATSUM during their discourse on Monday.
The ATSUM stated that the agitation demanding notification for elections to ADC will continue.
“The ongoing agitation of ATSUM for the demand of issuance of notification for the general election to ADC will continue as announced,” the ATSUM stated.

On Monday, volunteers of the ATSUM closed Government offices and banks in the hill areas in protest against the State Government’s ‘failure’ to announce the schedule for elections to ADC in hill districts.
The elections to the ADC were supposed to be held in June last year.

However, elections to the ADC was postponed for 6 months by the State Cabinet on the recommendations passed by the Hill Areas Committee (HAC).
