Imphal: Two members of the Village Defence Forces (VDF) under the Manipur Police Department were abducted by armed assailants in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.

Officials said the incident occurred on Monday when the victims were forcibly taken from their homes in Phubala and Toupokpi villages by around ten individuals wielding firearms.

Chabungbam Premjing, 31, hailing from Phubala village, and A Abon, 32, from Toupokpi village, both stationed at the Mini Secretariat in Bishnupur district, were abducted in the presence of their families.

The perpetrators, arriving in two white Maruti Gypsies, executed the abduction around 10 pm on Monday.

The families of the abducted individuals filed complaints with the local police station on Tuesday. Concurrently, a sit-in protest was organized in Phubala and Toupokpi to demand the safe release of the abducted personnel.

Authorities assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue the abducted individuals swiftly.
