Former Manipur MLA and a national general secretary of National People’s Party (NPP), Vivek Raj Wangkhem died of Covid19 infection in Delhi on Monday.
Vivek Raj Wangkhem was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Kshetrigao constituency in the 2002 Manipur Assembly election on a Congress ticket.
He later joined the NPP.
According to reports, he tested positive for Covid19 a week back.
He was reportedly undergoing treatment at DRDO Hospital in Delhi.
Meghalaya chief minister and the national president of NPP, Conrad K Sangma has expressed deep condolence at the demise of the party’s national general secretary.
“Pained by the demise of Sh. Vivek Raj Wangkhem, former Manipur MLA & National General Secretary of NPP who lost the battle to Covid,” Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma tweeted.
“We have lost a dear friend & a committed party leader. My deepest condolences to his family, friends & admirers. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

Meghalaya Cabinet minister and NPP leader James K Sangma has also condoled the demise of Vivek Raj Wangkhem.
“Deeply saddened on hearing of the demise of my dear friend Shri Vivek Raj Wangkhem, former Minister & MLA, Manipur & National General Secretary, NPP,” James Sangma tweeted.
James Sangma has termed his death as “a great loss to the NPP family”.
“My heartfelt prayers go out to his family & loved ones. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
