The Eastern Regional Writers’ meet began at the RK Priyagopal Sana Auditorium in JN Manipur dance academy premises in Imphal on Sunday afternoon.
West Bengal minister for information and technology Bratya Basu, who is also an eminent theatre personality, was the centre of attraction of the afternoon.
Over two dozen poets and writers representing eight different languages from across eastern India have arrived in Manipur for attending the two-day writers’ meet.
Poets and writers writing in Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Nepali, Maithili, Manipuri, Santali and Odia will be attending the various programmes that will be held in the meet.
Session of short story reading, poetry recitation will be held in the two-day writers’ meet.
They will also take part in various discussions in which the writers will share their views on contemporary writing.
A special session titled ‘Why do I Write’ is also scheduled for Monday.
Bijay Rabi Das (Assamese), Surendra Bharadwaj (Maithili), Rabi Narayan Panda (Odia), and Badal Hembram (Santali) attended Sunday’s short reading session.
The writers’ meet is being jointly organized by Naharol Sahitya Preme Samit Imphal and Sahitya Akademi.
